BOYS TEAM IN KANSAS CITY
Vault seemed to be the apparatus of choice for the level 6 men’s gymnastics team while at the Kansas City Classic January 29-30. Brian McCray, Bradley Weatherford, and Kade Cummings each won gold on vault for their age group. Kade earned a 14.9 in the 10-year old group. Bradley, age 11, scored a 15.10, and Brian, in the age 12-13 division, earned a 15.0. Brian also earned silver on parallel bars (13.8) and bronze on high bar (14.5) and pommel horse/mushroom (13.7) to tie for second place all-around (82.60). Bradley earned two silver medals, on high bar (14.8) and floor exercise (13.9).
Nicholas Brocklesby and Carter Frederick competed in the 8-9 year-old group, with Carter taking second on parallel bars, and Nicholas tying for second on vault and taking third on still rings. The Level 6 team won second place in the team awards.
Four Level 7 rookies competed against teams from six states and earned first place team award. Drew Huck earned silver all-around in the age 10-11 division with a score of 85.0. He tied for first place on still rings (15.0), took second on parallel bars (14.5) and high bar (14.0), and third on floor (14.7) and pommel horse (12.2).
Christopher Bowling took third place all-around (83.5) after earning silver medals on floor exercise and vault (14.8), and bronze on parallel bars (14.3). Drew Sikora, who earned a 14.6 on rings, improved his all-around score by nearly 10 points from the previous meet.
Cole Wilhelm, who competed in the age 12-13 division, was the parallel bars champion, earning 14.6 on that event. He also took silver medals on rings (14.8) and vault (14.5), and bronze on floor exercise (14.5).
“It was a fun out-of town meet,” said head coach Greg Schram. “Having snow at the same time made it extra special.”
