WINNERS AT REGIONALS
Cole Wilhelm didn’t just win, he won big. Cole has had an extremely successful competitive season as a gymnast at Eagle’s Wings Athletics (EWA) in Allen. The season is not over yet, but Cole returned to Allen as Regional Champion times three. He won first place on parallel bars with a score of 15.0, first on high bar (14.7) and tied for first on vault (15.2). He earned a silver medal on floor exercise (15.5) and all around (87.7), and took 11th on pommel horse (13.0) and 12th on still rings (14.3) out of the 23 competitors in the Level 7, age 12-13 division.
The USA Men’s Gymnastics Regional Championships were held April 9-10 at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Fifteen EWA gymnasts, levels 6 through 10, competed. Only Levels 9 and 10 are eligible to advance to Nationals, held in Tennessee next month, and all of EWA’s Level 9 and 10 athletes did just that.
On the Level 10 team, Evan Fitzgerald earned fourth on pommel horse (13.15), and eighth on floor exercise and high bar in the 14-15 year-old division. He earned 12th place all-around with a score of 75.05. Logan Doughty, in the 16-18 group, tied for seventh on parallel bars (13.75), placed ninth on floor exercise, and 12th on high bar. These two, along with teammate Justin Muenz, and Level 9 Cameron Lake, will be advancing to Nationals.
Chandler Guvernator competed Level 8, where he earned fourth place on high bar (11.15), fifth on vault (12.2) and rings (11.5), ninth on floor exercise, and 8th all-around (67.8).
Other notable finishes from the men’s team were Level 7 Drew Huck earning tenth on floor exercise, Level 6 Brian McCray (age 12-13 division) placing fifth on vault (14.2) and ninth on parallel bars, and Carter Frederick placing ninth on bars in the Level 6, age 8-9 division.
